Inaugural IDIA Summer Symposium Kicks off Superior Educational and Networking Experience
August 1, 2015, Chicago, Illinois – The heat was on last week in Chicago and it wasn’t just about the weather. The International Dental Implant Association, an alumni network and continuing education organization uniting the world’s top dental implantologists, hosted a blockbuster summer symposium filled with a variety of pre-event workshops and weekend seminars.
Held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare July 25-26, the symposium offered a singular opportunity for dentists to network with colleagues and learn from their experiences — not to mention the ability to explore Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods, dining and cultural amenities. The event was conveniently located near Chicago’s main airport and only 30 minutes from the Windy City’s famous sites and attractions and the spectacular Lake Michigan shoreline.
Attendees earned 16 continuing education credit hours accredited by the Academy of General Dentistry, complete with a Saturday night dinner and awards ceremony. The awards, which were either a certificate of achievement or wooden plaque, recognized IDIA members who had advanced their credentialing through membership tiers including Fellowship, Mastership, and Diplomate. In addition to dinner and dancing and a healthy dose of meet-and-greet, weekend lecture topics were as varied as Chicago’s beaches and attracted high attendance. Highlights included: how to increase patient satisfaction, pharmacological considerations for implant dentistry, effective use of platelet-rich plasma, computer guided surgery and the latest implant technologies.
“Considering how successful our Honolulu symposium was earlier this year, following up with a summer event when it’s actually warm outside in the rest of the country made the most sense,” said Dr. Arun K. Garg, the International Dental Implant Association’s founder and president. “But even I couldn’t have anticipated the reception we received. By all accounts the weekend proved a fantastic success and a superior educational experience that rivaled even our best symposiums in Mexico, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. I’m extremely proud of the IDIA staff and so pleased doctors got what they came for — a life changing professional event. I look forward to seeing everyone at our next Hawaii symposium in February 2016!”
Like the General Session lectures, pre-event workshops proved equally popular with the more than 200 attendees — especially the workshops on PRP and Phlebotomy, computer guided surgery, and a newly created refresher course designed to give dentists a crash course in the latest technology and techniques in dental implantology. Phlebotomy, for instance, (the art of drawing blood) may seem like a basic skill taught in first year dental school. But often it’s a procedure whose importance has been overlooked – even as platelet-rich plasma research repeatedly confirms the procedure’s patient healing benefits. These offerings alonedemonstrate the IDIA’s commitment to world-class education, expertly delivered.
In addition to professional and personal growth, the IDIA remains a unique forum for networking and fellowship – a collaborative environment where the most ground-breaking dental knowledge can be discussed and reviewed. Future symposiums will remain committed to this standard, transforming the face of dentistry one patient at a time.
